Saturday, August 19
1pm-2pm
Local historian and author Joe Hardy returns to Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society to discuss his latest book, The Year Without a Summer, on Saturday, August 19 from 1pm to 2pm at Society headquarters.
Joe delves into historical fiction with this story of a Southern Maine farm family in 1816, a year after the volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia. When the patriarch dies and the crops fail some family members have to make life-changing decisions to survive. Real towns are woven into the work, and the characters are inspired by real people who lived in the Wells area around that time.
The presentation will conclude with a question-and-answer forum followed by the author signing copies of his book for those wishing to purchase.
This program is free and open to the public. There is ample parking at ASHS headquarters. For more information, please contact Tracey Levasseur at (207) 206-5947 or info@actonshapleigh.org.
