Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society Needs Volunteers
Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society is seeking individuals who would like to join the organization and help with several of our committees. Becoming a member is simple and once you join we encourage you to consider one of the following opportunities. For further information contact us at info@actonshapleigh.org.
Membership Chair: This person is in charge of keeping track of members' contact information, receives and acknowledges new membership applications, sends out dues renewal reminders and encourages people to join the Society.
Fundraising Chair: The Society cannot survive on membership dues alone! The Fundraising Chair formulates ways to earn additional income to help pay the bills and provide money for projects, programs, etc. This person brainstorms ideas to raise funds then works with the Board of Directors to make these ideas happen.
Program Chair: This motivated person finds topics that would make interesting and entertaining programs to be hosted by the Society. He/she would search around for talented people to discuss historic topics, present a talent from bygone days, hold concerts, etc.
Sunshine Chair: This person would be in charge of sending flowers to a member whose loved-one passed away or a get-well card to a member who may be ill. It's not a full time position, but it's a position that needs careful monitoring. Sometimes a member needs some Sunshine but they won't mention it. The Sunshine Chair has to be vigilant in knowing who needs a pick-me-up.
Research: With over 60 years of archives, our Society has a lot of materials that are either under-identified or not identified at all. We're looking for help researching what we have in order to display it properly. Also, by understanding the archives we can better organize and inventory them, both physically and digitally. Research volunteers should have a love of history, local history is a plus, and good knowledge of searching the Internet.
General: Currently the Society headquarters is open only one day per week in the evening. We're looking for individuals who may be able to spare a few hours per week at the headquarters for people to come visit during the day. Individuals could help visitors research a family or peruse the exhibits.
