Shapleigh's Town Farm
122 Emery Mills Rd, Shapleigh, Maine
Monday, September 19
6:30pm
New England’s town farms served as nursing homes, mental wards, and homeless shelters. Theoretically the farm was supposed to be self-supporting and therefore a more economical way of caring for the town’s poor. For nearly 70 years (1849-1918), Shapleigh maintained a farm for paupers and this program will delve into some of its history.
This program is presented by ASHS own David Mann, and runs about an hour. It is free to all those interested and donations are always appreciated. There is ample parking at the Society museum and handicap accessible.
