2016

The Acton-Shapleigh Historical Society slate of events began with a display of military memorabilia set up by Steve for Armed Forces Day through Memorial Day. In July, we had a booth at the Shapleigh Community Days where we provided information and sold memberships, books and other items. In August, we had a booth at Acton Fair and did the same.

The Big News this year was the acquisition of the grange building on the Back Road in Shapleigh. Fundraising started for repairs to the building. Prize calendars were sold and a hand-made quilt was raffled. Cleanup at the building began.

Work at cleaning trees and brush from old cemeteries continued and burial sites were documented.

Kitty Whist was played on Wednesday nights during the summer and early fall.

The Acton history book has been reprinted and Rhoby Treadwell has contributed the proceeds towards maintenance of the Lincoln School in Acton.

In August, we helped with the open house for the 150th Anniversary of the Washington School in Shapleigh.

Also, in August, local author Kimberly Sue McLaughlin gave a book presentation and signing at ASHS.

Five $100 scholarships were presented to local graduates of Massabesic High School and Sanford High School.

There were 44 paid members this year.
